(In the time period from the 7th to the 16th of May, 2011 a trial census was conducted)

The current demographic concerns have been more oriented towards knowledge, description and analysis of the evolution of families and households, as the basic form of human cohabitation, the main statistical informational support for the construction of economic and social development policies of the country.

By the strategy drawn up in connection with the Census of population and dwellings to be conducted in October, 2011 the information bases will be extended in respect of the characteristics specific of the families’ evolution over the ages, respectively of the households, – the basic elements of human cohabitation.

In such manner they will be able to describe in the future the main tendencies of families and households evolution,and by the study thereof they will draw out information concerning :

  • the population ageing phenomenon;
  • increase of single persons households or monoparental families;
  • evaluation of the number and structure of the generations living in the family framework;
  • structure of families according to the number of children and the number of dependent children;
  • family structure according to family or parental relationships ;
  • women condition within the family;
  • the migration phenomenon, especially of temporary migration, for working abroad purposes and others.

In respect of the following decades, the condition and evolution of families need a complex research, concerning their many demographic and social-economic correlations , taking into consideration that a durable human development can not overlook the part played by the family and to be plyed in the future development of society.

Such goals, both generous and complex, can not be treated without the precious information of the Census of Population and Dwellings , strongly oriented to providing appropriate and highly detailed information, which can be used in works and research activities on certain priority aspects of the durable development, such as those aspects concerning the development of human settlements and land management (including urbanism studies), life quality relating to the dwelling conditions (including the use of the dwelling units), concerning substantiation of dwelling construction development and of the necessary urban facilities, those relating to the environment.

In addition, the priority substantiation demands of the strategy programs of regional development,and also of the economic and social development programs of certain disadvantaged regions and areas, will be complied with by the appropriate turning to good account of the available information of the census.
